Anyone using an LED grow light? Much cop? I'm tempted to make my own seeing as I have loads of old electrical components knocking about.

What ratio of colours are in it?

You should only be using artificial lighting if you don't get much sun.

Well, most of our days are overcast. It's just to supplement them more than anything.

Yeah, they should be fine. We had one person have a cool LED setup but I can't find it. I don't know how well it works. How much are you planning on investing? LED setups are meant to save you money on power consumption, but they can be just as costly as a CFL setup.

I'm trying to do it womble style; still trying to do the maths of it all. My main concern now is the power source. I wanted to have it all run off a car battery or two but It's finding out how long those batteries would last. Was planning to use some solar power to recharge the batteries, Again its down to the ampage the panels could turn out and how long the battery would take to recharge.

Also, assuming I enclosed the plants with some "walls" that are white. and the volume of the box is say,1m^3, How many LEDs are appropriate assuming each LED has a rating of about 9000mcd? (with a ratio of 4:1 blue:red)

I think it's 15 LEDs by 15 (2:1 red/blue) or 15x8, I can't accurately tell from the video below.

That looks good but I'd want one which is atleast 80% blue. I've got everything I'd need to make one bar the LEDs so Its cheaper for me to buy a couple boxes of LEDs and make my own.

Well then do something like 15x5, and have it four blue, 1 red, four blue, 1 red, etc.

Does it matter what distance an led light is at? LEDs create heat like normal lights.

i have a led grow light. Its ballest burned out and is no longer reliable. It'll turn off and on by its self. Any way, my results were amazing with salvia. i had a 108 watt led grow light. It was red and blue. supports the vegitative state of plants

So the led worked good. But more light is better. I no longer grow salvia and have moved on to hps and kratoms. Became illegal and packs a big fine so i switched my setup. But they do work well.

Chewy, is that a GlowPanel brand set of LEDs? It looks just like the one in the video I posted on page 1.

I've designed one with 100 LEDs that equates to about 10 watts including resistors etc. I'm hoping it will be enough but obviously I will leave room to add more LEDs should the need arise.

Take pics/post design notes. That sounds impressive. Total cost?
