The Names We Give Our Plants

Postby ChemistKen » Sun Jun 20, 2010 1:19 am

I was thinking that it would be interesting to share the reason/thought/inspiration behind the names that people have given their plants...some are descriptive but others aren't so...

So to get it started I shall explain the name of my salvia divinorum "Sasha". She is named after the great Alexander 'Sasha' Shulgin. As a chemist myself I have lots of respect for Dr. Shulgin. Sasha Shulgin is a Chemist who has done much work with psychedelic chemicals, especially phenethylamines(such as mescaline) and tryptamines(such as psilocybin and DMT). For these substances he has written two books which I have read and loved...So in the honor of a great chemist, I have named her(my sally d) Sasha.
