Creating YouTube video grow logs

Postby Ulmdorgr » Thu Jan 28, 2010 12:11 am

This post is meant to describe the various details regarding how to effectively name, describe, and tag your videos. It is also intended to establish a standard to follow when uploading videos so that the Salvia Divinorum Mass Distribution Project (SDMDP) will have a community of interconnected videos.

Creating your video
(If you need help creating/editing your videos, please reply to this thread so this post can be updated with information that is necessary for the community)

If your intention is to capture the details of the plant, please do not use low resolution cameras or web cams. Otherwise, please record and submit to YouTube, the highest resolution videos possible.

Before exporting your video, take into account the recommended/preferred file types, etc.: http://www.google.com/support/youtube/b ... 2&hl=en-US

Uploading your video
  1. You need a YouTube account. We have chosen YouTube as our medium because it is free and flexible.
  2. When you are logged in, go to the home page or your profile. At the top right you will see a button bounded by yellow that says "Upload." Click on that.
  3. This new page has some information about what limitations and such (e.g. 2GB file size limit and 10 minute length maximum), just ignore everything on the page except for the box near the top. You must click on the "Upload Video" button.
  4. When prompted, locate and select the file to upload and click ok.
  5. The video will now upload. You will see a loading bar. When it has been sent to YouTube's servers, it will indicate that the video is processing. Before closing this window or moving on, create a new tab or window and check to see if it actually registered itself in the system. If you put your cursor over your username at the top right of the screen, and then click on "Account" from the drop down menu, you can select "Uploaded Videos" to see if your video has shown up. It should state "Processing" to indicate that you have to wait a few hours. At this time, you do not have to keep the windows open.
  6. Wait for the video to finish processing before tagging, renaming, or describing your videos. Sometimes the content can be lost, depending on what actions you take.
  7. After the video has been processed, go to the video's page or view it under the "Uploaded Videos" section of your profile. Click on the "Edit" or "Edit Video" button. You can now freely rename the video title to something descriptive (like "Username Salvia Divinorum Grow Log SDMDP"). In the description, add brief grow log information (measurements, changes, etc.). For Tags, see below. For Category, select "Howto & Style".
  8. You're done! Now just advertise the video here on the forums and to all of your friends. The more positive ratings and views you get, the better your video will do on the search results.

Tagging your video
Add the following tags, and any others that you want, such as other plant names (you can copy/paste this list): Note, I have not tested this list of tags. If you attempt to add them and it fails, please reply to this thread.
Code: Select all
Salvia Divinorum Mass Distribution Project SDBlog.com SalviaDivinorumBlog "Salvia Divinorum Blog" SalviaDivinorum "Salvia Divinorum" Sally-D SD "Ska Pastora" "Ska Maria Pastora" Ska Maria Pastora Grow Log "Grow Log" Cultivation How "How to" How-To How-to Howto Community Organization Group People Cool Plant Care Water Watering Humid Humidity Temp Temperature Light Lighting CFL Actinic Dome Tent Massive Big Large Growth Beautiful Flora Help Health Healthy Leaves Leaf Green Brown Bright Little Dead Dying Revive Revival Regrowth Recuperate Save

If you have multiple videos...
Remember to create a playlist! Viewers can then quickly start watching the logs in chronological order (you have to make the playlist in the correct order, or organize it later).

To create a playlist, go to the page of the video you uploaded, and underneath you will find the "+Playlist" text/link (to the right of ♥ Favorite/ → Share). If you click it, a menu will appear and you can add the video to an existing playlist, or create a new playlist.
Anything that I post is fictional and is purely part of my imagination. Do not attempt any of the activities described above.
